Best cleaner for the boat
May 28, 2020
I have used 920 for years on my boat. I apply with an orange cutting pad at low RPM and it takes oxidation and stains right off. My white gelcoat gets dirty through the year and this restores it quickly. I have found that this, and then a polish, and then a wax with 885 Paste Fleetwax works very well to keep the color from fading on the hull through most of the season. I will also use Collin 920 and a rag to spot clean for stains on the top side throughout the year, always Be sure to cover with wax when done.
ProsEasy on and easy off Cleans thoroughly Removes oil and wax Removes oxidation with a cutting pad
ConsCan't think of one. Be sure to shake well, I guess.

I've been using Collinite products for over 20 years. Let's face it, the fastest, most effective, most complete method for getting dirt and marks off gelcoat is Acetone. But, that can lead to a chalky finish that needs protection attention immediately. Acetone is toxic, a bit dangerous and should NEVER come anywhere near decals or applied graphics. Collinite Boat cleaner is very convenient for spot cleaning and it leaves a silky finish ready for some liquid wax for protection. Besides, who wants a can of Acetone bouncing around their boat's cabin? Collinite smells much better too. I have yet to find anything on my boat that this stuff won't get off including bugs and bird bombs. If I use the acetone to get dock marks off the hull, I just don't like putting wax right over that spot and want to treat it with something else. I never have those reservations with the Collinite 920. Follow it up with Collinite liquid or paste Fleetwax and you'll find yourself staring with pride at your results. Everything they make Marine or Automotive is a winner.
ProsEasy to use, cost effective product that lives up to Collinite's excellent reputation. Safe for use on applied graphics. Consistent successful results. A quick and complete prep for wax. My 11 year old boat elicits regular compliments from fellow Marina captains. Knowing the best kept secret that Collinite is, has made me a real unapologetic snob on the water.
ConsI really have to dig deep to come up with a 'con' on this product. If I had my 'druthers' I would really like to see a dispenser cap on the bottle. Every time I take the cap off, it apparently grows legs and takes off. It seems to never be where I left it. Not having to take the top off would probably have saved me a few hours over the years. Other than that, I would never consider another product to clean my boat.

It's one of the better cleaners that I've used. Can't say that about their wax though.
